• Class 6 verbs mutate a stem consonant throughout the present tense. Here с alternates with ш: писать → пишу, пишешь, пишут.
• The stress is c-type (shifting): end-stressed in the я-form (пишу) but stem-stressed in every other person (пишешь, пишет, пишем, пишете, пишут).
• In the past tense the stress is fixed on the stem (писал, писала, писало, писали), with no shift onto the feminine ending, unlike monosyllabic verbs such as жить, быть.
• The aspect partner написать adds the perfective prefix на- and inherits the same consonant mutation and stress pattern; only the meaning becomes “to write (to completion).”
