About this verb#
- Class 1a with fixed stem stress (сжимаю), a long -ма- imperfective stem. Aspect partner сжать has a dramatically shorter athematic stem (сожму, сожмёшь, сожмут), the same -ма- ↔ short-stem alternation as обнимать ↔ обнять.
