About this verb#

  • Prefixed perfective from стоять ('stand') with на- (here in the figurative 'press for'). Class 5b has end-stress throughout (настою, настоишь, настоят). Note the unusual imperative настой (with -ой, not -ои) reflecting the absorbed -j- of the stem. Government: настоять на чём ('insist on'). Distinct from settling/infusing liquids (same form, different sense).
