About this verb#

  • Class 3a -нуть with the characteristic dropping of -ну- in the masculine past (мёрз, not мёрзнул) but keeping it in the present-future (мёрзну, мёрзнешь). The ё is intrinsically stressed throughout. Intransitive, no government. The perfective partner замёрзнуть adds the prefix за- with the inceptive sense 'start to freeze, freeze up'.
