About this verb#
- Class 1a with fixed stem stress (занимаю, занимаешь, занимают) and a long -има- imperfective stem. Aspect partner занять has a much shorter stem (за- + я-, Class 14: займу, займёшь, займут), the same -ма- ↔ short-stem alternation as понять.
