About this verb#
- Class 4b -ить famously DEFECTIVE: the 1sg form is taboo in standard Russian (the expected *побежу / *побежду is felt as awkward), so speakers paraphrase with смогу победить or одержу победу. From 2sg on, regular д → жд only in the imperfective (побеждать); the perfective keeps д.
